Lunchtime cycle meet. 7 of us. Still just a wet pub - but free sausage rolls on a Sunday. The beer choice was very good and the landlord attentive to end-of-barrel situations. I understand that he has fallen out with the local Parish Council over the ACV listing.
Harvey's - Georgian Dragon | 4.70 | | Super pint “hint of fruitcake”. St George’s Day brew. |
Shivering Sands - Knock John Amber | 4.60 | | Fresh on after the Georgian. Light, citrusy with a good hoppy bite. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | End of barrel accepted by one of our group - but landlord wasn’t happy with the look of it and a few sips in replaced it with one straight from the new cask - it was very good apparently. |
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild) | 3.00 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Forward's Choice | 3.50 | Not Tried

Good Sunday lunchtime vibe. No restaurant food still but free roasties and sausage rolls.

Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale) | 4.30 | | Warming pint in good nick. |
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild) | 3.00 | Not Tried

Popped in with Martin for a pint as he lived nearby and neither of us had been before. Friendly place with lots of the older generation playing cards or supping beer. Large inglenook fireplace with a wood burner throwing out heat. Top pub.
Harvey's - XX Dark Mild (or Sussex XX Mild) | 3.00 | | Lovely stuff. I like low ABV beers like this. Dark, hint of roasted malt, watery. Shame we could only stay for one. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
Northdown - Bitter Seas | 4.20 | Not Tried

Sunday lunchtime cycle meet. Changes to the layout since my last visit - the main bar is now more intimate with a partition wall installed and the pool table moved to the other bar area. Still a work in progress and no hot food, but we again had some gratis nibbles. A good range of four ales, all from Harvey’s.
Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale) | 4.30
Harvey's - Christmas Ale | 7.50 | | I don’t usual rate strong ales this low but it was sickly sweet. Condition fine. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Harvey's - Sussex XX Mild (or Sussex Dark Mild) | 3.00 | Not Tried

Lunchtime. Our cycling group of 9 boosted numbers well. The beers were in very good condition. Landlord is still having issues with the kitchen apparently so no food menu - but he put out some gratis nibbles for us and conjured up a cheese baguette for a particularly hungry biker.
Harvey's - Olympia | 4.30 | | Tip top |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00

Early evening. I’d heard that this had recently changed hands. Enthusiastic new owners talking of varying the real ales. TT Landlord ready to go on and a new Angels and Demons being delivered tomorrow. Unfortunately no other customers in - but I’ll keep an eye on this one.
Harvey's - Wild Hop | 3.70
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

Stop 3 cycle Sunday. Mid afternoon- friendly crowd of locals and a blazing log fire, nice.
Dark Star - Hophead (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.80 | | Fine - but a very long time being poured, very lively. |
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried

Early evening - only a handful in. This looks like another rural gem - good “public bar” area with a pool table, a small eating area, plus conservatory, small garden and a quiete roadside area with bench table.
Love the (new) sign - with the old sawyer clearly not the wisest.
Dark Star - Hophead (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.80
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Wife of Bath's Ale | 3.90 | Not Tried

Great traditional English pub. Great atmosphere and good food. Serves Adnams and (at the moment) Fullers London Pride
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | another great beer |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | | a great beer. |

Saw a sign on the Wingham road advertising a beer festival this weekend so called in to see what was on.
Abigale - Bramling | 4.10 | | Nice pint, really hoppy, fresh and crisp. |
Goddards - Fuggle (or Fuggle Dee-Dum) | 4.80 | | Dark and full bodied, full flavoured. |
Rudgate - Battle Axe | 4.20 | | Rich smooth and nutty. |
Burton Bridge - Falling Star | 4.50 | | Malty and a bit sweet. |
Ripple Steam - Milk Stout | 3.50 | | Dark and smooth, a light bodied beer. |
Cottage - Thunderbolt (superseded by 4% version) | 4.90 | | Dark malt with little hops but nice enough. |
