I had the day off so I came to Faversham. I sat out on the side of the creek with my pint of Mild, listening to Pink Floyd's "Animals" and watching the turns buzz each other. Ah, it doesn't get much better than that. At some point a chap started to mow the marsh on the other side of the creek using a push mower. Clearly he had a lot of time on his hands.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - Silver Star4.30GoodExcellent condition. Fruity and light with a kind of mild Goacher's Gold Star about it.
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40GoodGood condition and quite lively. Good coffee notes but no chocolate and quite low on the hopping for his Mild.
Goachers - House Ale3.80GoodReasonable condition. Sharp, orangy, bit roasted too.

Jane, Tony, Isabel and I drove over early lunchtime and found a nice spot in the garden under a tree. Within half an hour the garden was quite busy with walkers mainly. A good pub to start the day with.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentFresh and light. Easy drinking. More light than dark.
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40GoodGood condition but a bit thin in the mouth. Plenty of coffee and hints of chocolate but needed a bit more body.

I'd read on the BBC's website that global warming was happening faster than expected so I thought I better go and enjoy Faversham marshes while there were still above the sea. I was first in the pub. I took my pint, sat on the steps overlooking the creek and listened to Talking Head's Once in a Lifetime. Does it get much better than that? Not really.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - House Ale3.80AcceptableJudging by the angle of the barrel this was near the end. It had a high degree of carbonation but once that past I was left with a resinous, slightly 1 dimensional representation of a usually great beer.

I love this pub. We sat in the garden (where Isabel slept like an angel) and I just stared across the reed-beds and pastoral marsh fields towards Faversham town. The clouds were high and billowing with warm sunlight streaming through for long periods. The creek was at half tide and the views across to Sheppy were lovely. And on top of that the beer line-up was great.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - House Ale3.80GoodBadged as "Shipwrecked". Perhaps not in great condition (bit of marmite on the aroma and in the mouth) but there was a good dose of Goacher's Dark in this that made it pleasurable.
Goachers - Silver Star4.30GoodLike buses, I don't see this for 6 months and then 2 come along at the same time. In fantasitc condition. Light and refreshing with a good lemony hop finish. There's no real body to this though and I was left feeling I'd just drunk a german lager.

A blazing log fire with excellent pub grub to boot. I can recommend the Steak pie. There were a small crowd of locals, together with a friendly Pointer (Henry) in attendance. Henry being very friendly if he felt food might be on offer!!!!

Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentExcellent balance of hops and malt. Very well kept and the forth pint tasted as good as the first!

Turned up at about 2pm and it was very busy but being such a nice day we sat out the front. After a while we got a seat inside and ordered some food. Excellent pub with friendly staff and a fantastic line-up of local beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentBadged as "Shipwrecked" this had lots of Goacher's Dark giving it excellent body and a malty, earthy hop finish. Hints of staw and orange peel present too.
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40ExcellentFresh with bitter coffee and hints of cocoa powder.
Goachers - Dark Ale (aka Original)4.10ExcellentToasted nutty malt with a good toasted malt bite on the finish.

We were the first people in that evening so we could sit where we liked. What a lovely interior it is with lots of snugs and compartments.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70ExceptionalMandarin and lychee flavours followed by a bitter elderflower bite. Shame most other pubs have Incubus rather than this!
Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentGood and hoppy with a bitter finish and a creamy lingering mouth feel. I detected a slight peaty taste.
Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale4.20ExcellentMandarin and lemon zing with a deep base lemon hop finish. Astringent but "pour it back" drinkable.
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40GoodGood bitter bite to it with a clean peaty coffee taste with a burnt coffee finish. Judging by the angle of the barrel on the stillage this had only been tapped recently. Give it a day or 2 and it will be perfect.
Goachers - Dark Ale (aka Original)4.10GoodSame peaty over-flavour as the Special. Subtle toasted caramel on finish. Umm... no Goacher's signiture taste of malt and progress hops. My guess is this barrel had only just been tapped so hadn't mellowed yet.

Second of my stops on my cycle ride around Faversham after the Black Lion at Lynsted. Had to come here after the reviews of the Whitstable IPA from Andrew and Martin. 6 beers on and still very busy even though it was late lunchtime. I sat on the bank of the creek with my pint and enjoyed the view of the creek, Isle of Sheppey and the marsh whilst the sun beat down. Terrific

Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale4.20ExceptionalGolden colour. Aroma of rich apricot and peach with some hop and some biscuity malt. Full in mouth and slightly sweet due to the fruit. Nice hop finish with more dried apricots and some rose petal. What a wonderful beer.

Friday lunch time session and it was faily busy with couples having food. We sat outside on the river bank to start with and that was great. Just the view and a pint of Goachers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale4.20ExceptionalPale yellow brew which tasted of grapefruit and flowery hops. Very light and moreish. Great.
Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentLots of orange with a malt finish. Far more 'light' in this than 'dark'
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40GoodAnother interesting beer. Sweet and sharp to start with followed by burnt malt on the finish. What I imagine a classic mild to taste like. Not what I would have expected from my favourite beer but good none the less
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70GoodLight and hoppy.
Goachers - Dark Ale (aka Original)4.10AcceptableInteresting. Tasted of acetate. Very burnt flavours to start with a slight sweetness and then burnt malt on the finish. Not the usual taste of Goacher's Dark
09 Apr 2005 (Andrew)
Got there when it opened at 11am and by 12.30 it was packed. Being a bright but cold day there were a few walkers in but mainly people who'd driven
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40ExcellentMy guess this was from a fresh barrel so it hadn't got that chocolate taste yet. Still a good 'un though
Goachers - House Ale3.80ExcellentMore light than dark but still loverly
Goachers - Dark Ale (aka Original)4.10ExcellentThat good old goachers taste but a bit more earthy than usual
Goachers - Mildly Original3.70ExcellentOkay we made this beer up by mixing Original with the Mild but hey, it worked. Good malty taste of the Original worked well with the burnt malt of the mild. May be Mr. Goacher should have a taste.
Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale4.20GoodVery rich golden beer that tasted very similar to Swale's Indian Summer
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70AcceptableA bit tired for this usually excellent beer

Kent white clapperboard building on the Oare creek overlooking the Isle of Sheppey. Excellent home cooked food and a choice of Kent micro beers all on gravity
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goachers - Mildly Original3.70ExceptionalCreated by ourselves by mixing half of mild and half of original. Excellent malt flavours from the mild with the body and structure of the original. Wonderful
Goachers - Real Mild Ale3.40ExcellentVery dark ruby colour. Good malt, some burnt caramel/coffee, some dry hops on end. Excellent flavoursome mild
Whitstable Brewing Company - East India Pale Ale4.20ExcellentGolden beer. Good hoppy nose with raspberry fruit malt. OK in mouth with flowery hoppy finish. Some fruit malt with good bitter dry aftertaste
Goachers - House Ale3.80GoodDark gold. Bit citric with tart hops and some malt. Slightly creamy in mouth
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70AcceptableGolden ale, some citrus fruit, thin in mouth , some hops and a bit tart/acid on finish.
