Busy in the early to mid-evening. Just two cask beers on today. I think I am here for the start of a CAMRA Pub Crawl. Realise after a while that I am in the wrong White Hart (they’re at the one in Aldgate), but decide to stay here anyway as the beer is on very good form.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hospital Porter5.20ExcellentChocolaty Porter on very good form.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye Mild3.80ExcellentA very nice Dark Mild with a difference.
30 Sep 2014 (Stephen Harris)
After work visit. Not so busy that I couldn’t find a seat.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Snakecharmer IPA5.70ExcellentOn keg dispense, chilled and with a tingle of carbonation (a cask version is being brewed this Friday). A very cloudy golden colour. Nice US-style IPA. Good fruity hop tastes.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hospital Porter5.20GoodVery dark brown, with coffee and chocolate flavours. Lost half a star for being a tiny bit acidic – a bit too brewery fresh perhaps?
Late Knights - Crafty #1 Steam4.50AcceptableFor some reason the name of this beer made me think it might be something a bit special. In fact it came over as a straightforward, fruity, amber-coloured bitter.

19 Sep 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Early to mid-evening and quite busy. It is a mild evening and the outside tables are proving attractive.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Black IPA5.70GoodA bit shocking after the two beers that went before. But a pretty good, full-on Black IPA.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Salvation! Pale Ale4.40GoodAmber coloured and hazy. Fruity hop tastes.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Simcoe Saison5.70GoodOn keg dispense and rather cold and fizzy. I assume this is the beer I sampled out of the fermentation tank last time I was here. It has mellowed nicely. Sour. Good hop tastes.

Evening. A lingering pint lasted until the England football match had ended on the screen.

Early evening visit. It turned out that there was a Pig’s Ear Beer Festival planning meeting going on upstairs and I managed to tag along on a little brewery tour down in the cellar with Simon the Brewer. Quite an impressive kit he’s got down there. I was gone by half time of the England game so may not have crossed paths with Mr Pirrip. Additional beers as already listed, plus we had tasters of a rather raw Saison out of the fermentation tank.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Rye Mild3.80ExcellentVery unusual. The rye flavours are quite subdued, but I was getting black fruit – I wonder if Bramling Cross hops are used?
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Whisky Barrel-aged Porter 7.00ExcellentOn keg dispense. Intensive dry woody smoky flavours from aging in a wooden barrel. Very nice.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hospital Porter5.20GoodNice, very dark brown, chocolaty Porter.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Salvation! Pale Ale4.40Not TriedAn acquaintance at the bar nudged me away from this one.

The new, and improved, beer range here seems to be going down well and the pub was busy in the early evening. Wonderful brewing smells permeating the whole building.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Black IPA5.70ExcellentA collaboration beer with Redemption Brewery. A very heavy-duty Black IPA. More challenging than some, with lots of leather and liquorice tastes, but very rewarding.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Salutation Pale Ale4.40GoodA very decent, amber-coloured, Pale Ale with a bit of bite.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Dockers Delight4.50GoodA hazy amber colour. Suffered for me from coming after, rather than before, the full-flavoured Black IPA. But still a tasty Pale Ale.

For those who are trying to keep up, you may wish to know that the in-house brewery here is now branded as One Mile End Brew Co., and the beers badged accordingly.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - American Brown4.50ExcellentA good example of the style. Dark brown in colour, quite heavy malt tastes, enlivened by fresh hop flavours.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Peach Hefeweizen4.80AcceptableThis didn’t really work for me, with none of the flavours pronounced enough. Yes, its wheaty and peachy, but not enough for me. Personally I don’t think this style is well-suited to cask conditioning. A bit of chill and even a touch of gas would have helped this beer I think.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Porter4.50Not TriedA new version of this beer at 5.2% available tonight.

Evening visit, more diners than drinkers, much different to the proper pub this used to be 20 years ago when I frequented here with Chris E in the days before this area became trendy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Ruby Ale5.00AcceptableOnly beer available from a possible 6, dark with a burnt liquorice flavour not to my taste.

Early evening visit with Robert S, nattering about the contrasting records of our football teams as the season comes towards its end.

One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hard Tackle4.20GoodAn amber coloured, standard bitter with a nice hoppy finish.

My mate Robert is not let out of the house very much these days. So when he has a free evening pass he does like to fill his boots. We meet here in the early evening for the first stop on a bit of a brewery crawl.
BeerABVScoreNotes
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Ginger Beer4.50GoodOn keg dispense. Amber/orange in colour and very gingery.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Floral Ale4.00AcceptableA chestnut-coloured bitter. Very sweet. So sweet I wonder if perhaps the brew is not fully attenuated?

The pub is found in Whitechapel, Greater London, E1 4TP.

This pub was present at the London end of Mile End Road as early as 1750. It was rebuilt in its present form in around 1900 and is a striking building with a cupola high above the corner door. In the 1970s and 1980s it was the principle pub of the small Murphy’s chain of East End pubs, owned by a family of that name. This pub in particular became known simply as ‘Murphy’s’, and the White Hart name was forgotten for a while. It was notorious for its late night lock-ins, and a tap on the side door in the early hours was usually rewarded by the chance of a sly late one. At this time the pub retained superb etched-glass partitions and mirrors. All that was swept away some time in the late-1990s in a controversial refurbishment that left the pub with a large, open-plan, wooden-floored main bar and a function room upstairs. Further refurbishment has come in 2013, and this has seen the introduction of an open view kitchen and an in-house micro-brewery. 6 handpumps on the bar counter.

We have visited this pub 24 times, seen 41 different beers and tried 27 of them.
